Knowing that your child has harmed another child is \nnot an easy realization, but there are things you can do to address the \nbehavior quickly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Speak with your child immediately.<\/strong> Let them know that certain behaviors are not acceptable and there will be serious consequences if they continue.<\/li><li><strong>Take steps to ensure the safety of other children that may be at risk.<\/strong>\n If you believe your child has harmed or may harm other children, take \nprecautionary measures to ensure that your child is never alone or \nunsupervised with other children, including during the evening or \novernight hours, after school, or any other time the child may be alone \nwith other children. Take into consideration that your child may \ninteract with other children outside your home, such as at school or in \nsocial settings.<\/li><li><strong>Reach out to professionals. <\/strong>Children and \nadolescents who act sexually inappropriately do so for a variety of \nreasons. Many of these reasons are different than motivations of adult \nperpetrators. It is important to have your child speak with a \nprofessional with experience in the field of juvenile sexual offenders. \nThese professionals can help assess the behavior and determine an \nappropriate course of treatment. You can talk to someone at your local \nsexual assault service provider to help locate an appropriate mental \nhealth professional.\n<ul><li>If the child who was harmed is also one of your children or \nunder your care, it is important to let them know that what happened is \nnot their fault and that you will do all you can to keep them safe. \nConsider having your child speak with a mental health professional to \nhelp them talk through their experience in a safe place.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li><strong>Report to authorities.<\/strong> If you know that your child \nhas sexually assaulted or abused another child it is important to report\n these crimes to the proper authorities, such as Child Protective \nServices. Reporting agencies vary from state to state.
